The Buy Kiwi Made media campaign was run by the Ministry of Economic Development in order to boost home grown support for manufacturers. In fact, it was part of a 100 year history of Kiwis encouraging Kiwis to buy New Zealand made goods. Every time we buy Kiwi, the whole country benefits. The media campaign has concluded, but the message will continue through the private sector's Buy NZ Made Campaign Ltd and the getnzmade.net shopping portal.
For the past 100 years Kiwis have been encouraging other Kiwis to buy New Zealand made goods. The first organised campaign was a partnership between manufacturers and retailers and was quickly supported by government. The 2007-2009 Buy Kiwi Made media campaign continued that spirit of partnership and worked closely with the Buy New Zealand Made Campaign Ltd, formed in 1988 as a partnership between manufacturers and unions.
